Are you ready for the journey?
Project Spark is initiated and carried out by SM1 scholars in Singapore, involving participants from more than ten different educational institutions across the isle. It is a project that renders help and warmth to the primary school children living in underdeveloped rural area in China.
Spark is all about igniting dreams. Dreams of those unprivileged children, most of whom are on the verge of dropping off from school not necessarily because of financial concerns but loss of courage and hope.
We believe in both their potential to realize their dreams, whatever they maybe, and our ability to bring out that potential, to rekindle their desire for knowledge, and to provide them both the end and the means to stay in the fight. While helping the children to probe into their dreams, we as volunteers also rediscover ourselves, our aspirations, our reasons for living, learning, and giving. Spark is a chance for us to really see the world as it is, taking our very first step from the soil that is the most familiar, and unfamiliar, to us.
“The beautiful world will never refuse a man who fought valiantly for his dream” - this is what we are going to repeat again, again, and again to the children: When a desire has transformed into a dream, all you need to do is to answer the call. By conducting civics lessons and introducing various kinds of subjects, cultural activities and sports that the kids have never heard of before, we will open their eyes to the world outside, enticing them to touch on different fields of knowledge that they are interested in and hopefully, will offer adequate assurance to them when they are making desicions for their higher education. We will have heart-to- heart conversations with them, with their parents to help children invididually.To better aid the children on this journey, we also try our best to supplement facilities and resources by donating books and sports equipment such as Frisbee and soccer.
